Dealer Notes
This edition was the last one that Richard Ford worked on. Lister 'Bibliography of Murray's Handbooks for Travellers', 179 - "Revolution had broken out in Spain the previous year and there followed 14 insurrection-wracked years, hence the gap before the next edition. A renewal of the Carlist War, a civil war fought with extreme brutality, took place between 1873 and 1876". See also Carter & Muir, 'Printing and the Mind of Man' 302, Travellers' Guides - "Possibly the most famous of the long Murray series was Richard Ford's Handbook to Spain, 1845, a literary work in its own right".
