Book Description
Manuscript Letter April 1795, by Lieut. Bryan O’Reilly, on board H.M.S. Sheerness, Portsmouth. Preparing for a 9 month voyage. Addressed to Charles E. Cox esq. Bartlets Buildings, London. The broken red seal is still attached. The letter states he has “Consigned to your care, a box containing papers of some consequence, & a few leaves which I request you’d be so good to keep in a dry safe place till my return, or in case of accident, forwarded to my sister Honoria Maria O’Reilly, Dublin.” He also asks permission to “draw on you for £33 in two separate Bills to equip myself for the voyage” Also to insure for 9 months his property in the “Sheerness” for £50. Interesting piece of Naval Ephemera.

H.M.S. Sheerness - a 44 gun, fifth rate vessel, launched 1787 and wrecked in 1805.
