Book Description

Published by The Folio Society, London, 2017, 1st edition thus. First published 1869. Two volume set in slipcase. Blue cloth boards with illustrations of birds and insects to front boards. Orange and black lettering to spine. Orange lettering to front boards. Contained in a blue slipcase which has orange lettering superimposed on a green outline of a bird to one side. Each volume 9.5ins x 6.5ins. Volume one: lvi, 331pp plus colour frontis and 32pp plates (nearly all in colour). Also maps and other black and white illustrations within the text. Volume two: xv, (i), pps 331 to 665 plus colour frontis and 32pp plates (mostly colour). Also some black and white illustrations. Preface by Steve Jones. Introduction by George Beccaloni. Books Fine. Slipcase bumped to bottom rear - VG. A fairly scarce set.
