Book Description

Published by Chatto and Windus, London, 1874, new edition. Rebacked quarter calf with maroon cloth boards. "Vagabondiana" printed in gilt to the spine. 11ins x 7.5ins, 36pp text followed by 32pp of drawings of vagrants and paupers by John Thomas Smith. Also 8 small illustrations within the text. Some of the drawings are dated 1815 ( the first edition was published in 1817). John thomas Smith [1766-1833] was a painter and engraver and at one time Keeper of Drawings at the British Museum. He also produced Antiquities of London in 1800 and Antiquities of Westminster in 1807. Previous owners bookplate to front pastedown. Circular ring mark to front board otherwise VG.
