A Complete and Universal Dictionary of the English Language
Book Description
This is a H/Bk Leather bound copy of “A Complete and Universal Dictionary of the English Language Comprehending The Explanation Pronunciation, Origin & Synonymies of each Word” by The Rev. James Barclay and Printed and Published by Brightly & Childs, Bungay in 1812. The Dictionary has some 928 pages of meanings with 19 engraved plates and a 22 page introduction. There is a Binder/Seller's label on the front board for S Gellatly, Arbroath. There is also a previous owners name and date [James Lawson 1832] impressed on the inside of the front end paper. Apart from that I have not found any other marks or inscriptions in the Dictionary. The binding is tight with no damage and I believe it to be contemporary. A very nice example of Barclay's Dictionary. If you have any questions about the Dictionary or its content please email me.
