A L’Ombre Du Minarethe ( Tr.: 'The Shadow of the Minaret'). The First printing published by Aux Editions Vanderlinden, Bruxelles in 1929. The Book is in near Fine condition. One of only three special copies printed on Lafuma Papeteries Madagascar paper. These were issued unnumbered but the watermark of the paper clearly identifies the paper as such. 122 pages and measures 14.5 x 20 cm with the text in French. The book has been bound in varicoloured cloth with an Eastern half crescent to the front board and a morocco label to the spine with gilt titling (the latter has a hint of rubbing but not affecting the lettering). Striking coloured abstract end-papers. The book was issued in wraps format with stiff card covers. the latter have been retained and bound in. Internally Clean. The book has been inscribed by the author to the first blank end-paper to a Doctor Spies : 'Au Docteur Spies, Cinq petits contes orienteaux our un grand western doctor ( Tr.: 'Five little oriental tales for a great western Doctor'). Paul Collet provides B/W illustrations throughout - A header and tailpiece for each story and other illustrations throughout. Collet was a 'Painter, draughtsman, engraver, water-colourist and illustrator, he is also a lawyer, a man of letters and an aesthetics teacher. Author of remarkable reconstructions of the past of his native city. He is best known for his linocuts, a technique he was the first to use in Belgium (1911). His master was without question A. Donnay whose example of "linear synthesis" he cultivated. He exhibited in almost all the capitals of Europe as well as in Cairo and New York. P. Collet has been called the "Imagier du Roman Pays de Brabant".' (Dictionary of Belgian painters). Henri Liebrecht was a noted and prolific Belgian writer, essayist and historian. This title underwent at least a further three printings from 1929-1936. The first printing is extremely scarce in its own right. A very handsome production.
