Book Description

A Map of the City of Norwich drawn and described by J P Sayer. Published by Strand Magazine London circa 1948. On paper opening to 26 by 20 cm. The map takes the form of a plan of the centre of the city with vignettes of various historical figures associated with Norwich and of important buildings such as the Cathedral and Tombland Alley. Colour. J P Sayer was a British artist whose work included railway posters and maps, with this map being one of a series he produced for the Strand Magazine in the late 1940s. His maps combine history with humour and reflect a romantic interest in the past and a feeling of optimism for post-war Britain. Text to the reverse. One central fold as issued.
