A Roll of Arms of the Reign of Richard the Second
Book Description
Scarce. Title printed in red and black. The frontispiece (which is lacking in some copies) illustrates nine coats of arms.
Thomas Willement (1786-1871) was an antiquarian and stained-glass artist. In 1832 he studied a Roll owned by the Rev. John Newling, prebendary of Lichfield, which contained painted shields of the twenty-six founders of the Order of the Garter. It was later known as the Willement Roll of Arms; now in the British Library, (Egerton MS 3713). Willement subsequently published this edition of the roll in 1834. 25 large paper and 100 standard copies (of which this is one) were printed.
