First Edition. Limited Edition of 1525, this copy being 'Out of Series', for Review. Printed for the Nonesuch Press by Richard Clay & Sons, Ltd., Bungay. Sewn into semi-stiff boards loosely covered with marbled overwrap and title label to front cover. A lovely clean copy with slight rubbing to corners and minor closed edge tears to bottom of the spine. Light offsetting to endpapers and one page with a spot of foxing otherwise clean, fresh and bright. 27pp. 'James Laver, CBE, FRSA (1899-1975) was an English author, critic, art historian, and museum curator who acted as Keeper of Prints, Drawings and Paintings for the Victoria and Albert Museum between 1938 and 1959. He was also an important and pioneering fashion historian described as "the man in England who made the study of costume respectable. His 1927 poem, A Stitch in Time, a pastiche of Alexander Pope's The Rape of the Lock set in modern times, successfully captured public attention'.
