Dealer Notes
Arctic Bibliography 7943. Frederic Jackson, who led the Jackson-Harmsworth Expedition in 1894-97, sailed to Franz Josef Land, wintering at Cape Flora. This became the expedition base for the next three years, sled journeys being made through the archipelago for survey work and scientific collections. On the 17th June, 1896, Albert Armitage sighted a man out on the ice. It was Nansen, on his return from the highly successful, but extremely hazardous, Fram expedition. Jackson’s meeting with Nansen and his companioni Hjalmar Johansen forms just one of the notable episodes in this narrative of the expedition.
