ANNE COUNTESS OF SUNDERLAND, Lady of the Bedchamber to Queen Anne. Part of a receipt for “the sum of Two Hundred and Fifty Pounds for one quarter of a year due at Lady Day last 1700. On her annuity or yearly pension... as one of the Ladys of the Bedchamber to her Majsty. and there together with her as her assigned attendance...” It was issued by Lord Godolphin, whose signature, with that of H. Boyle is in the right hand margin. It is receipted on the reverse and signed A. Sunderland.

~ Anne Spencer, second daughter of the first Duke of Marlborough, became Countess of Sunderland after her marriage in 1700. She was noted for her great beauty and influence in politics, and between 1702 and 1712 she served as a Lady of the Bedchamber to Queen Anne
