Book Description

Bognor Regis No. 3 is 'Weird Fantasy' magazine under a new name (& there were no issues 1 & 2) The high spot in the content is James Cawthorn's 'Lord of the Rings' Portfolio #2. Portfolio #1 had appeared in 1961 in 'Triode' magazine, the first published illustrations of Tolkien's 'Rings' other than Tolkien's own.Cawthorn's portfolios are executed in stencil, a difficult medium, in which he excels. Two of the pictures reproduced , 'Light in Edoras' and 'Against the Deeping Wall', are the finest in his long career. The rare interview with loval writer Alan Garner is one of Garner's best, dwelling in-depth on the personal inner conflicts which drove the English author's works of fantasy. The cover illustration is of Frank Zapper & is by David Britton.
