Re-cased in modern red cloth covers with white cloth spine & beige end-papers. LACKING MAP, although the fold-out 'Prospect of Elizabeth-Castle' & the illustration on page 238 are both present. The title continues: "The second edition, revised, and much augmented By Philip Falle, sometime Rector of St. Saviour's and Deputy from the States of the Island to their Majesties King William and Queen Mary. To which are added, in a Letter to the Author: Remarks on the XIXth chapter of the IId Book of Mr. Selden's Mare Clausum, by Philip Morant, M. A." Philip Falle (1656-1742) was a clergyman and historian of Jersey best known for his informative account of the island. Jersey, the largest of the Channel Islands , is a self-governing democracy under the Crown of England. In this book, the 1734 greatly expanded second edition, Falle elucidates upon the History, Description, Military Government, Civil Jurisdiction, Convention of the States, Privileges and Religion of the Island. To the front is the title page; dedication to the King; preface to the first edition; introduction; & the contents of the chapters & the appendix &c. To the rear is a one-page list of errors "occasioned by the author's distance from the press". Loosely inserted is a print-out b/w. copy of a map of Jersey taken from a later (1797) edition of the book.
