Light brown polished calf binding with five raised bands to the spine, red title label with gilt lettering, double gilt ruling to each band and gilt design to outer edges. In good condition with marks to board, rubbing to edges and corners, slight dryness to hinges and spine and small loss to tips of the spine as seen in photos. With all that mentioned a firm and sound binding. Internally with clean and crisp pages, all very white, slight browning and offsetting to free endpapers and endboards and a touch of foxing to title page and sporadic pages throughout the book, especially last 5 pages. Previous owner's stamp to front endboard. vi, 213pp. 'A novel about two young friends from University, whose lives proceed along very different paths; narrated in a very melodramatic manner, with wickedness and sanctity contrasted throughout. This is the author's only book; it seems likely that he was related in some way to the bluestocking Hester Chapone, whose maiden name was Mulso, and whose father and uncle by marriage were both named Thomas Mulso.
