[CIRCUS].
Book Description
Bifolium, 24.5cm, 4p., printed on orange paper, portrait photo medallion to first page, lithographed plan to last page within decorative border.
A nice copy of this programme for the 1921 Bertram Mills Circus Christmas event at Olympia in London. Mills, the son of an embalmer, showed an early interest in stunt horse riding which he developed at his family’s farm in Buckinghamshire. After service in WW1 he formed a circus c.1919 “Bertram Mills International Circus”, so the event here must have been one of his earliest events.
Performances include “The Silbon Sisters “ (aerialists); Schumann’s Horses; Jackson and McLaren, the Australian wood-choppers; Lockhart’s Elephants and more. A very good copy (small adhesive residue along first page spine edge from mounting).
