Copper engraved historiated initials. Original full leather boards, marginal gilt tooled decoration, spines relaid at some point in the past, with blind tooling and gilt lettering, with rubbing, wear and edge loss. Circular engraved bookseller’s plate to fep of Volume I: S. Bagster, Strand. Small creased paper fault to edge of ffep of Volume I. Occasional spotting, text generally bright and crisp. Nicolas François Joseph Eloy, Medecin Consultant de S.A.R. Madame la Princesse de Lorraine, et Pensionnaire de la Ville de Mons. (1714-1788). Eloy studied philosophy and medicine in Leuven and the Faculte de Medecin de Paris. Appointed physician of the city of Mons. In 1754 he became the medical adviser to Anne-Charlotte of Lorraine and her brother Duke Charles-Alexandre of Lorraine. An associate member of the The Royal Society of Medicine in Paris. The sale catalogue of Eloy’s impressive personal library is kept at the Royal Library of Belgium. First published the previous year in Liege. This edition is not listed in Garrison Morton. Later edition of 1778 is listed as 6704. Only 7 library holdings of this edition recorded worldwide: Wellcome, Utrecht, Israel, Yale, Columbia, Johns Hopkins, Stockholm.
