Edward Burra was an unconventional artist who was at the peak of his creative powers during the 1930's. He painted people when that was considered to be out of fashion ; he painted landscapes when these were also considered to be unfashionable. Although profoundly disabled he lead a rich & full life and he left a legacy of fine letters & writing as well as his paintings.
