FIRST EDITION. Small 8vo. (5.9 x 3.8 inches). xxi, 259pp. Finely printed, at the Chiswick Press. Engraved frontis by Hamo Thornycroft. A crisp, clean copy throughout. Finely bound in a beautiful early twentieth century leather binding of full red morocco. Spine with five raised bands, each with three gilt leaf devices. Compartments ruled, lettered, and decorated in gilt. Gilt double ruled border on both boards with floral designs to each corner, outlined in gilt and with dark green morocco onlays. Boards with bevelled edges, ruled in gilt. Elaborate gilt decorative borders on the inner boards surrounding marbled paper panels. The same marbled paper used for the free endpapers. Red morocco leather inner hinges. All edges gilt. There is a faint mark to the rear board but overall the condition is fine. The binding is unsigned but of a very high standard. This lovely volume contains a 13 page introduction by Gosse and odes from the finest English poets, including; Spenser, Jonson, Milton, Cowley, Dryden, Congreve, Shelley, Keats, Shelley, Coleridge, and Tennyson.
