Examples of Ornamental Metal Work. Drawn and Engraved by Henry Shaw.
Book Description
First edition, 4to (280 x 220 mm), 50 engraved plates (including engraved decorative title, 2 hand-coloured), some quite heavy soiling and foxing, Roxburghe-style olive-green roan, red paper boards, expertly rebacked to style.
Dealer Notes
Although quite badly foxed, this is a rare work. It depicts mainly ornamental iron work designs for such items as staircases, lamps, railings, chandeliers, street lamps, gates, door handles etc. “In some cases the designers and/or executants are acknowledged, and these include Francis Bedford, Richard Bridgens, Decimus Burton, John Goldicutt, Francis Goodwin, Charles Inwood, William Knight, James Savage, Shaw himself, Sir Robert Smirke and Lewis Vulliamy.”—RIBA.
