Crown.8vo. pp. [1-4] [1] 2-276, The author was a Yorkshire born epidemiologist who received his early medical training at the Leeds School of Medicine and served as a surgeon in the Crimea for which he was awarded Turkish and English medals.In 1865 he was asked to prepare a report on the appearance of Cholera abroad and in 1866 was engaged in investigating an outbreak in East London, which he traced to the infected supply of the East London Water Co He was elected a member of the Epidemiological Society in 1850 and was its honorary secretary 1862–1871 and president 1875–1877. Loosely inserted is a photo portrait of the author.
