First edition, in the original 32 parts (parts 23-4 and 33-4 in one part as issued). 8vo. photogravure port. of Nansen, 42 other plates inc. three coloured and one plan of the Fram, three folding maps; ownership inscription to first leaf of part 1, else very good in the original printed wrappers, a little soiling to upper wrapper of part 1, stain to upper wrapper and recto of first illust. of part 5, chipping and minor tears to upper wrapper and first illust. of part 1, chipping to rear wrapper of final part with minor loss, overall a remarkably well-preserved set of the scarce parts issue of Nansen’s work.

A rare example of the first Norwegian edition of Nansen’s “Farthest North” in the original parts. The book describes his expedition aboard the Fram, 1893-96, which attempted to attain the North Pole by drifting in the ice with the polar currents.
