Some folding plates/maps with tears, mostly along the folds, one with tape repairs to verso, one plain plate with section detached, but present. Preliminary pages xxix-xxxix (List of Plates) bound with the plates. From the library of Gerald Andrew (Director of the Sudan Government Geological Survey 1939-1955) with his stamp and signature. Numerous annotations to margin of text, on loose sheets pasted to margin of relevant pages and to verso of maps, etc. giving reference numbers to relevant specimens from the 'survey collection'. Occasional ink notations to printed maps. Typed letter from Reginald Engelbach to the author. Engelbach was an English Egyptologist and engineer, curator at Egyptian Museum of Cairo, known for compilation of a register of artifacts belonging to the museum.

William Fraser Hume (1867-1949) was a British geologist, he moved to Egypt to assist with the first geological survey of the whole country and in 1909 was appointed Director of the Geological Survey of Egypt. in total contributed thirty-four years of service to the Survey. Part III of this volume ‘deals with the economic products of Egypt...Here, archaeologists and students of early civilizations will find much that has a direct bearing upon their studies, more particularly concerning the working of the precious and base metals, and precious and semiprecious stones’.
