GYVULIU ŪKIS [ANIMAL FARM]
Book Description
Translated by Fabijonas Neveravičius. First Lithuanian edition. With a striking cover illustration of a farm horse and sickle by Kazys Dargis. The spine has unobtrusive repairs, creasing, small tears and some loss at the tips. Dust soiling and some marks to the covers. Internally a few tiny ink dots to the title page and a couple of other pages, but otherwise clean and in good shape. A delicate production which is very hard to find.
Dealer Notes
Orwell greatly encouraged the publication and distribution of Animal Farm in as many countries as possible and particularly in those countries affected by Soviet rule. By his death in 1950 there were editions in Polish, Czech, Ukranian and Russian. Over the next five years, there followed this Lithuanian edition and translations into Hungarian, Latvian and Serbian. Interestingly, Bodil Darkis (née Rønnow, 1925–1988), wife of the cover illustrator, Kazys Dargis, worked on the British animated film of Animal Farm, produced in 1954.
