Also memorandum relating to the fares, hiring etc. of hackney carriages, published by HMSO, London 1897 . In stiff red cloth-covered boards size 24 by 15.5 cm. Title gold-stamped to front. 122 pages plus a 16-page index and a large folding map of London which folds into a pocket inside the back of the book. A wealth of information on the streets of the capital and cost of travel in late nineteenth century London. Map (published by Stanfords on a scale of 3 inches to the mile, complete with a colour-coded key to the distances involved in the fare structure) measures 83 by 77 cm. and is in VG to Mint condition. The book is in Good to Vg condition with fading to the front and foxing to outer edges which does not affect the contents.
