November, 1648. In vindication of the Parliaments treaty with the King in the Isle of Wight. London: 1648. Pp [ii], 20 [ii], prolegomena leaf to end present [BOUND WITH] Anarchia Anglicana: or; the History of Independency the Second Part, printed in the yeare MDCXLIX. Pp [viii] 254 [ii] 20. Title page in red and black. Later good quality half morocco, edges red, ex-libris B W Cooke Brook House Painswick, pages crisp and clean with no annotations, however PLEASE NOTE sometime has suffered from water immersion, leaving a mark throughout the middle part, successively becoming less obvious but reappearing again toward the end. A great pity about the water marks, otherwise would be an excellent copy. The binding is sound, therefore presumably the book was rebound sometime at the beginning of the twentieth century after the accident that it suffered. The publishing history of the second part of this important anti-Republican work is complicated there being a number of different issues in the same year, 1649. This is the issue without the single plate, sometimes found, that appears to be found only in UCLA and Minnesota (no copies in UK), but it has additionally a further section to those, consisting of an errata leaf and correction to the names of those who sat on the trial of the King, followed by An Appendix to the History of Independency being a brief description of some few of Argyle s proceedings before and since. with a parallel betwixt him and Cromwell. AND a Caveat to all his seduced Adherents which is not noted in ESTC. One presumes that the bibliography of this work is not yet entirely settled. An a interesting item. First item R23597; Second item ESTC R204237; Third item R186155. Please note faults, but priced accordingly.
