Sidney Smith in a contemporary review, noted (Edinburgh Review), "The best of the English accounts is certainly that of Robert Wilson.'The narrative is extremely full and very entertaining." As a member of Parliament, Wilson pressed to end the practice of corporal punishment of soldiers, common at the time.
