[AN EARLY VICTORIAN HORTICULTURALIST'S RECEIPT BOOK OF SOIL RECIPES, PLANT FERTILISERS, AND DRESSINGS].

Book Description
[UK]: [Before 1845].
8vo, 18cm, c.110ff. (of which c.42ff used), occ. stub and small rectangular corner clipped from several leaves. Original plum ribbed morocco (rubbed), marbled end leaves
Contains specialised plant food and soil recipes for a number of unusual flowers, many not native to the UK and difficult to grow, such Bouvardia; Brugmansia; Cistus; Epidendrum Fragans (orchid), and others. Presumably created by a nursery manager, the manuscript is of interest in that it suggests that certain plants such as Bouvardia, and Cistus were introduced to UK at a much earlier date than previously suggested. Current proposed introduction times were c.1854 for Bouvardia, and c.1866 of Cistus. Also contains a few pages of historical notes on world history 1809-1832, and notes on British commerce to 1845.
