In A Green Night: Poems 1948-1960
Book Description
Hardback. First edition. Derek Walcott was born in Saint Lucia in the West Indies and this is the first collection of his work to be published in the UK. Walcott went on to win the Novel Prize for Literature in 1992. 79pp. Prettily bound with cream cloth and gilt lettering to the spine and lightly patterned green papers to the boards. Dust jacket in a darker green is designed by the Italian graphic designer Germano Facetti who had been part of the influential pop art exhibition, “This Is Tomorrow” at the Whitechapel Art Gallery in 1956. Germano Facetti went on to be a key figure in the design of Penguin books. In A Green Night: Poems 1948-1960, unusually, still retains the publisher’s green publicity band with a quotation in white by Robert Graves.
Hint of dustiness and faint suggestion of foxing to the very top edges else very clean and neat.
