Freeman 20. Darwin’s first major work originally appeared as the third volume to FitzRoy’s narrative of the Beagle. It was subsequently issued separately, and this tenth thousand of 1860” is the final text as Darwin left it” (Freeman, p. 36). A Postscript was added to the previous edition “to correct a few errors” ( p. 7), and the binding is in the same style as the first three editions of On the Origin of Species.
