Book Description
This is a rare bound volume containing twenty eight Liberation Society Tracts, some with dated title pages, but most don’t, bound in an old half leather binding, this volume was originally presented to the Library of Bala Independent College by The Society for the Liberation of Religion from State Patronage and Control in September 1876 The Liberation Society was an organisation in Victorian England that campaigned for disestablishment of the Church of England. It was founded in 1844 by Edward Miall as the British Anti-State Church Association and was renamed in 1853 as the Society for the Liberation of Religion from State Patronage and Control, from which the shortened common name of Liberation Society derived. The book is 8 inches tall approx., with 242 pages, the binding is noticeably worn with loss to half the spine covering, edge and corner wear, both joints cracked, internally front board has obviously been off at some point and have been reattached with cloth tape (see pictures) foxing to endpapers with some mild foxing within else contents in good general condition A SCARCE COLLECTION OF TWENTY EIGHT LIBERATION SOCIETY TRACTS
