Sir Henry Edmund Knight (1833-1917) Lord Mayor of London.
Admiral Frederick Beauchamp Paget Seymour, 1st Baron Alcester, GCB (1821-1895) British Naval Commander. He was created Baron Alcester in November 1882 in recognition of his command during the Alexandria Bombardment in the Anglo Egyptian War.
Field Marshal Garnet Joseph Wolseley, 1st Viscount Wolseley, Baron Wolseley of Cairo and Wolseley KP, GCB, OM, GCMG, VD, PC (1833-1913). Born in Dublin, a most influential and admired British general with a distinguished career. Served in the final siege at Lucknow, active in Canada and America during the Civil War, he later became Governor of Sierra Leone and the Gold Coast, High Commissioner to Cyprus, Adjutant General to the Forces, with command of the British forces in Egypt. In November of the following year he commanded the Nile Expedition for the relief of General Gordon at Khartoum. His strategy of taking the expedition by boat up the Nile and across the desert to Khartoum took too long, they arrived too late: Khartoum was taken and Gordon was dead.
