John Cathcart’s diary from the 16ht September to 2nd November 1844 covers his daily life living on the coast of the Firth of Forth, across the water from Edinburgh. He describes shooting and hunting, family life, the arrival of his father by steamer from Granton, walks to Duloch, sailing his sloop and general life of a young Scotsman in the mid 19th century.
II- Robert Cathcart. Diary in “Letts’s Diary No.10 for 1850”.
8vo, 20cm. Original black blind-stamped cloth and gilt upper cover titling.
Robert Cathcart’s diary for 1850, completed farily thoroughly until April, sporadically until June and not thereafter. Robert, John’s elder brother, appears to have worked in Insurance and his diary records his commercial activity, making payments for insurance and other matters in the Auchendrane area, Ayrshire.
