Memento Mori in the form of a skull sitting on a book. Approx13 cm x 9 cm x 11 cm tall. Some marking and dustiness. “G Ruggeri”, to the spine. Ruggeri, an Italian sculptor, worked at Tito Bianchi’s factory in Tuscany where he developed his own mix of alabaster and resin, to create a durable and weatherproof material. Ruggeri was born in Volterra near Pisa and was known to be active from the 1930’s. A reminder, as if we needed it, that booksellers and book dealers all end up the same way, or perhaps a reminder to book sellers that books are extremely heavy things and will do for you in the end…
