CRAFT BINDING. 4to. (11.8 x 8.3 inches). 8pp of text in German. 173 full page mono plates illustrating people playing musical instruments through the ages, most of them women. Neat presentation inscription on the front free endpaper presenting the book to William Bentley, from the members of teaching staff of the Birmingham and Midland institute of Music, dated 16th July 1931. William Bentley (1862-1935) was honorary librarian and a Committee member at the School. In an attractive craft binding of full mid brown morocco. Spine with five raised bands. The compartments ruled and lettered in gilt. Triple blind ruled borders to boards with gilt corner dots. Circular blind tooled centre panels with a gilt harp and birds to the front board and the initials W B and floral devices to the rear. Board edges and turn-ins ruled in blind. Some rubbing to the extremities but overall a very good and attractive binding. The binding is unsigned.
