Title page in red and black with an emblematic wood engraving. Bound in a rather later rubbed half calf and marbled paper covered boards.Original maroon titling piece. Some toning, light foxing. The spine chipped to top and bottom, and splitting to the gutter margin externally and internally but holding firm on the cords. Tomus Alter, the second volume , not labelled as such on the spine, and often found separately from the first volume which was published three years earlier. With thirteen double page folding maps, largely in crisp sharply printed clean condition . One map with a few wormholes in the crease of the map fold, which is present in a few leaves on either side, but not near the text. Each map with some crisp copper engraved imagery showing strange elephants, pyramids, the Tower of Babel , odd camels, grovelling servants, beheadings and the like. Cellarius was a German scholar and classicist. The front paste down bears the armorial bookplate of Sir John Williams, High Sheriff of Flintshire, 1st Baronet Bodelwyddan.
