Published by Spicer Brothers, Wholesale Stationers, London, 1851 (the first 3 vols), 1852 the 4th, all 1st editions. Three volumes plus supplement. Recased in blue cloth but retaining the original pictorial cloth front covers. Recased by Epsom library. Accession number to spine, unused checking out form and bar code to (new) front free endpaper, small circular stamp for Esher District Libraries to verso of each title page. No other library markings. Gilt lettering to spines. Aeg. Each 10.25ins x 7.25ins. Volume one: cxcii, 478pp, 193*-208*, 465*-478* large folding coloured map plus 23 plates (1 coloured and folding, 1 folding). Engraved title page and numerous illustrations within the text. Volume two: [iv] pps 479 to 1002 plus 96pp plates. Volume three: [iv] pps 1003 to 1470 plus 149 plates (one double page). Volume four (supplemental): xxviii, [ii], pps 1471 to 1532, liv, 212pp (first commissioners report and appendix), 76pp (2nd commissioners report), 16pp (press reports of the catalogue), 8pp adverts plus 126 plates (5 double page) in the main section and a large folding plan, a folding coloured diagram showing fluctuations in visitor numbers and a double page plan showing fire precautions. There does not appear to be a "Plan of the Galleries" which is referred to in the first report. Some browning to both text and plate pages - although less so in the 4th volume. In total there are 4 engraved title plates, a large coloured folding map, a folding plan, a coloured folding diagram of attendences and 395 plates ( 1 coloured, 1 folding, 7 double page) A G+ copy of a scarce work.
