During his travels in Europe, he made notes and observations on volcanoes resulting in 'A Description of Active and Extinct Volcanos', published in 1826. In this 1846 work he writes the volcanoes in southern Italy including Vesuvius and Rocca Monfina and the ancient Aurunci tribe that lived in the area. [43957]
