[Sir Edward Bruce Hamley KCB KCMG (27 April 1824 – 12 August 1893) was a British general, military writer and Conservative politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1885 to 1892. Hamley took interest in animal welfare. He wrote “Our Poor Relations” in 1872, and the book reflected his strong compassion for animals and his horror of and anger at their mistreatment. He attacked animal rescue homes, and vivisection, writing that the ‘miscreants of veterinary colleges’ find ‘a horrid relish in their vile vocation’, and he lambasts Naturalists collecting specimens; ‘no kind of creature that can be classified comes amiss as a victim, from a butterfly to a hippopotamus’.]
Uncommon, especially in this condition.
