First edition thus. Octavo. Attractive contemporary prize binding of full red calf, the boards ruled in gilt, gilt dentelles, and with gilt crest for Nottingham High School to the upper board; the spine with five raised bands, compartments decorated in gilt, and with morocco title label lettered in gilt. Marbling to page edges. Marbled endpapers. Engraved prize plate dated 1906 to the front pastedown. Illustrated throughout with full-page and in-text black and white illustrations by Robert Anning Bell, including frontispiece, title page, and section headings printed in red and black. A very good copy, the binding firm with a little fading and rubbing to the spine and joints, a scrape to the foot of the upper board, and a couple of minor scuffs to the boards. The contents with light scattered foxing and two 1cm tears to the blank fore-edge margin of pp.133-34 are otherwise in very good order.
