Ronald Reagan Typed Letter Signed - Prelude To Iran-Contra Affair
Book Description
40th President, Typed Letter Signed as President to business executive Charles J. Broska. Signed "Ron."
This letter touches on many important events of Reagan’s presidency for such a brief letter. The letter mentions the failed nomination of Judge Bork to the Supreme Court, Reagan’s proposed “Strategic Defence Initiative” which was nicknamed ‘Star Wars’ & Reagan's support for the Contras which resulted in the Iran Contra affair. The Iran Contra affair was the biggest political scandal of Reagan's Presidency and resulted in indictments against numerous administration officials including the Secretary Of Defence Caspar Weinberger. The controversy ultimately did not bring legal consequences for Reagan himself. All were later pardoned by Reagan's successor George H W Bush. A scarce letter of significant content touching on three very important political topics of the day.
In Full:
"Dear Charles: Your thoughtful letter of September 18 has only just found its way to my desk! The gremlins must be back in the system!
Regrettably, The question of Judge Bork is now moot. However, I do assure you that I shall keep plugging away on behalf of my Strategic Defense Initiative and my support for the Contras. After all, the "good guys" have to win one once in a while!
Nancy and I send best wishes for a Happy Thanksgiving to you and Jean.
Sincerely, Ron."
