Rural Churches - their Histories, Architecture and Antiquities
Book Description
Published by Groombridge and Sons, London, 1869, 1st edition Original purple cloth boards with later replacement leather spine. Gilt lettering and decorative border to front board .Gilt lettering on purple lether patch to spine. Bevelled boards. AEG. 13.5ins x 10ins, viii, 72pp plus 18 coloured lithographic plates - from paintings by the author. Each church has a short (3 to 4) page description along with its illustration. The churches are from all over England - 16 different counties. The edge of pps vii/viii and the first plate have been re-inforced with tape - which is now a little discoloured. The colour of the spine is not an exact match with the boards, but it has produced a sturdy, tight example of a title which nearly always seems to have problems with the spine. Corners worn.
