Book Description

Samhain was a literary review established by W.B. Yeats and Lady Gregory. In 1899, along with Edward Martyn, they founded the Irish Literary Theatre. Although it closed in 1901, it paved the way for the opening of the Abbey Theatre in 1904. In support of their mission, Yeats and his collaborators created the short-lived periodical Beltaine, followed by Samhain of which 7 editions were published between October 1901 and November 1908. Here are all seven editions in original wrappers and housed for protection in oatmeal boards. Overall, in very good condition; the pages are clean and unmarked apart from occasional foxing. The page edges are a little curled with a few minor tears but in general they are very good. Very rare.
