Early ownership signature Francis Wilkinson, with his note John Jortin a name familiar to every scholar. Contemporary calf, rather worn, front board almost detached, internally clean. John Jortin was a noted liberal churchman and author, the son of Huguenot refugees. These essays cover human liberty, predestination, human nature and tolerance, Balaam, and the state of the dead as described by Homer and Virgil.
