Dealer Notes
This very scarce private printing records the author’s journey with his family in the East in 1870 and 1871 based on “pencil memoranda” made by him. The book is effectively an illustrated work, the text being no more than Budgett’s preface and the captions to the plates. Budgett is likely to be James Smith Budgett (1823-1906), a merchant, who resided at Ealing Park in the 1860s-70s but in 1879 purchased Stoke Park. From 1874-1883 he was general treasurer of the Wesleyan Methodist Missionary Society. The present work no doubt was produced for a limited circulation of friends and family.
