LIMITED EDITION; FIRST EDITION. A large volume (330 x 255 mm) of unpaginated leaves in a cardboard chemise with the title on the first plate, the frontispiece is two-toned color; 20 plates of illustrations in black and white, accompanying two pages of text each; Preface by Pierre Gavotte. One of 2000 examples on Alfa de Navarre vellum. All 20 sections accounted for. Some foxing throughout. All pages intentionally loose gatherings of bifolium. Overall GOOD to VERY GOOD condition.

From the colophon (translated from French): “The typography of this work was drawn on the presses of the Imprimerie des Beaux-Arts in Paris, on alfa vellum of the Papeteries Navarre in 2000 copies. The plates in the text were executed by G. Duval, printer and phototypist, in Paris and were drawn in 20 examples on special “Wattmann” paper and in 1980 examples on “roto-Aussedat” paper. The frontispiece was coloured by stencil (pochoir) by Berthelot. Printing completed on 15 March 1947 by the account of the Librairie Arthème Fayard.”
