Arlene Blum is an American mountaineer, writer and environmental health scientist who is best known for leading the all-woman ascent of Annapurna. Bill Hoke, whose ownership signature is in the book, was an avid mountaineer and firefighter in Washington State, who assisted in many mountain rescues. This book is about 12 men and women, mostly weekend climbers who climbed Everest in the 1976 American Bicentennial Everest Expedition.
