Book Description

This is a first UK edition of "The Golden Bowl" by Henry James. This is one of only 3000 copies printed with the march 1905 catologue to the rear (40pp Mathew catologue). The American edition preceded this edition by 3 months, being published in novemeber 1904. It is often considered one of James's major works and a masterpiece of late 19th and early 20th-century fiction. The novel is known for its complex narrative structure, intricate psychological exploration, and keen observation of social norms and like James's other novel "The Ambassadors" it showcases the tension between American and European cultures.
Dealer Notes
Good Condition. Blue cloth boards with gilt titles to front board and spine. Binding and hinges are firm. Pages are moderately tanned, more pronounced foxing to pastedowns and end papers. Boards have moderate edge-wear with some bumping to corners and crushing to spine ends resulting in minor fraying to cloth. Light tanning to spine. There is some notable stain to front board, as pictured. Otherwise a smart copy.
