Second impression. Octavo. Publisher’s full green cloth, lettered and decorated in blue, in fragments of the original dustwrapper. Top edge green. A near fine copy, bright, with some spots to the page edges, and very occasional very light foxing internally. The jacket is split with considerable loss, and is in four sections, wanting the majority of the spine, and large parts of the upper and lower panels. Housed in a bespoke clamshell box. The second printing of The Hobbit, which appeared three months after the first, and was the first printing to feature colour plates. It was through the press by 19th December 1937 and was printed in an edition of 2,300 copies.
