Book Description

The Journal of a Tour to the Hebrides with Samuel Johnson by James Boswell, published by White, Byrne and Cash, Dublin 1785. The 1st Irish edition. In a full leather binding size 21 by 12.5 cm. 524 pages. Containing some poetical pieces by Dr. Johnson relative to the Tour and never before published; a series of his Conversations, Literary Anedotes, and Opinions of Men and Books: with an account of the Distresses and Escape of the Grandson of King James II in the year 1746. The reverse of the title page has a small signature in ink. With the bookplate bearing the crest of the Irish Waller family to the front pastedown. One edge of the last 20 pages has signs of clear old damp penetration. New leather spine. Good condition.
