First edition. Bound from the parts. Half title present, so that the prelims run Half-title, frontis, engraved title page, printed title page, dedication, preface, contents list of plates, separate unnumbered errata leaf, followed by the text itself. Engraved plates by Phiz (H. K. Browne) as listed. The pound sign is correctly oriented on the engraved title page, there are thirteen lines to the errata leaf. Plates somewhat foxed as often, particularly the engraved title page and title page, text clean. Contemporary half morocco, marbled boards, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers retained, sometime rebacked with the original spine laid down. Early binders ticket Gooch & Son Yarmouth, binder s stamp to flyleaf Sotheran Sackville Street London. Presumably therefore, Gooch and Son were the original binders, and the restoration was achieved by Sotherans, which is of good quality as one would expect of them.
